(Updated with our furniture)
So I know I said I would post
photos of you 4 bedroom townhome on Atsugi when we got assigned housing, well
that may have to wait a few months. After spending a total of 20 days at the
navy lodge we were told they had no 4 bedrooms available for us. Our options
were then to either move in town or take a 3 bedroom and we were given the
option to have a 4 bedroom possibly in May when the air wing moves to Iwakuni.
We chose to take the 3 bedroom which landed us in the towers. Many people think
we are crazy because they would love to live in town (it is mandatory to live
on base right now) however if we chose to live in town we might end up being
forced to move back on base again if a 4 bedroom becomes available. If they
were to come to me in 6 months to a year I would say heck yeah let's do it but
when we were offered it I hadn't driven in town yet (I still haven't) and I
would have to bring my kids on base for school every day; honestly this thought
scared the heck out of me (still dose). I was also thinking about my kids about
90% of their friends from school live on base; they have moved so much and
changed schools so much over the last 3 years that I want them to be able to
make some real friends this time and that will be easier on living on base.
So far we have been in the tower
for about 3 weeks and I have to say it is not bad, the living space is a good
size as well as the kitchen, there is ample cabinet and countertop space by my
standards. There is also a good size storage unit located in the common area of
our floor which we can store all kinds of things in. I do not miss the outdoor
space due the fact that my kids would rather be on the playground then in their
own backyard anyway. The only thing we want the backyard for is to have a fire pit, a a smoker and a charcoal grill (none of which you can have in the towers) and a small garden (wich we can make a baloney work for). That 4th bedroom would also be nice but not
necessary due to the fact that the boys have always shared. The noise is also a
minimum due to the fact that the buildings are made of concert I hardly hear my
neighbors at all at least not enough to bother me (I just think sometimes what
in the world are they doing up there). Right now we have loaner furniture so once
we get our furniture I may update the photos due the fact that it may show the
sizes a bit better than the small simple loaner furniture.
