As soon as we got our orders to NAF Atsugi my mind was going wild with imagination; I did not know what to do first or even what to do last this was all so new to me. I mean the only place we had been were in Norfolk Va and New Orlean La. I had never been out of the country and Japan was definitely not on my radar. So I did what I think any of us would do and took to google. I googled the base, the location and of course the housing. Housing was a hard one, I found the housing page easy enough but when it came to the floor plans and photos those were not as easy to come by like New Orleans or Norfolk. The housing in Japan is not government contracted like here in the states so there was no Lincoln Military housing web page or anything similar it was a page maintained by what I can assume is the Navy (corect me if I am wrong). There is a wealth of information out there on Japan what to do, where to go,where to eat and stay. However when it comes to a family of 5 PCSing there the information is slim.
So what about schools? Well I have been told that you have options which is to send your children to the DOD schools "on base" or you can send them out in town to an international school. We chose to send our two school age children to the school on bases due to my oldest having issues in school due to his late diagnosis of ADHD. The school liaison is a great resource, if you email her she will send you preregistration information in which you can email back.

First of all use your sponsor this person will be your point of contact from the time you get there and possibly until he or she leaves. Your sponsor will set up your lodging and childcare (if needed) for when you go through the area orientation upon arrival. We have had the privilege of having the best sponsor ever. He not only kept in regular contact with my husband but me as well updating us on everything.
As we all know social media is how things are done now and almost every base has some type of spouses page or community page if not multiple and Atsugi is no different. This page is very active and it seems as though everyone is willing to help out.

Housing website
So as I stated I had a very hard time locating information on housing when it comes to photos and floor plans. The first website I came to on the NAF Atsugi web site gave me some information and a few you tube videos however no photos or floor plan the link for that was actually greyed out.The Youtube Videos a lot about the housing but again for a family of 5 who will qualify for a 4 bedroom it is not very helpful. However if you click on "MUST KNOW" Walah there it is the floor plans and photos of housing.
